A poem on how God transformed my words from weapon to witness

I used to use my words to fight my battles.
I used to use my words to plead my case.
I used to use my words to cut those deep,
Because words were the very thing
That were so often used against me.

But God, You fight my battles.
God, you’ve won the war.
God, I no longer need to use my words- to fight anymore.

My words were a weapon,
To cover my insecurities, to build a wall
To bury my shame.

But You God, call me yours
You tell me I’m chosen
You break down those walls
You know me by name

So when I see others mock you,
Misunderstand you,
Speak against you.

I will use that very weapon,
I used to use to cut other’s deep,
To share with others about you,
To help them know that they are seen.

They are loved, they are chosen,
They are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Their wounds are deep,
Their wounds are real.
But you, Jesus, can help them heal.

You love, you know their hearts,
You see their pain
God, you know every part.

So God as I pray,
Help me remember what David said,
“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord,
Keep watch over the door of my lips”.

Let this very weapon I used to use to hurt,
Be the exact thing I choose to desert.
Instead, I will love, share, care, and serve.
Instead, I will choose to set my eyes on You.

You are the way, the truth, and the life.
Lord help us to help others see that they can soar to the highest of heights.

He sees us, He frees us, He leads us, and teaches us.
Through his name alone, Jesus.
